The Balasaheb Thackeray Samruddhi Mahamarg (also known as Mumbai Nagpur Expressway) is a 701km long under construction access-controlled expressway between Nagpur and Mumbai and is going to be the first highway in India with nine green bridges (overpasses) and 17 underpasses for wild animal movements.
Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg is designed to be the fastest road in the country by permitting a speed limit of up to 150kmph on the plain region, while 120kmph on inclined sections covering mountain territories of the Western Ghats. The project comprises a 8 lane expressway and will pass through ten districts, namely Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Washim, Buldhana, Aurangabad, Jalna, Ahmednagar, Nashik and Thane. It will connect Nagpur to Mumbai and have direct connectivity with the country’s largest container port – JNPT.
